How did they get 2^6.5^2

Answer provided by our tutors

In the second solution step, notice the both sides of the equation were squared.  Expressing -40 as a prime factored form would have yielded (2^3)(5) but since the rightside of the equation is squared (-40)^2, that leads to (2^6)(5^2).
