I don't understand how this is the final answer for this problem

Answer provided by our tutors

The simplification is correct, however, there was probably an error in the program statement.  I see "(x^3)-1" in the numerator and "x^(2-1)" in the denominator.  Maybe what was intended was "((x^3)-1)/((x^2)-1)"?  To exit an exponent or parentheses or a radical, use the "right arrow key" or a click from the mouse in order to move the cursor outside of the current term.  I suspect that in the numerator the cursor was in the correct location and in the denominator the cursor remained in the exponent position.
