Use the 'Options' tab and begin a solution with 'a few steps' and only increase the number of solution steps when the additional information clarifies a solution. The simplification is simply identifies common terms, each of which contain one of the variables 'x' and 'y'. Clicking on a particular solution step provides the logic which is being employed:
