Could you help me better understand how to properly graph this equation? I understand that in order to solve this i just subtract 5x from each side to get to the format of y=mx+b however I do not correctly understand how to plot after that step. Thank you.

I see your equation is provided with 'Solve' and the graph is automatically changed into 'Graph', which is correct.  The tab labelled 'Graph' is the best approach to graphing and more than one equation can be entered (simply use a comma to begin a new equation). 

Equations are converted to standard form, which is y=mx+b for linear equations.  The range for the graph can be modified through use of the magnifying glass... other than that I'm not certain what more could be stated.  If this reply is insufficient then please clearly explain what is desired.
