How do I enter an absolute value term? I always get absolute value signs where I don't want them.

Absolute values are entered with the | key. On most keyboards it is above the Enter key and shares the key with \
If you are using the virtual Keyboard, just need to click on the right arrow to go out of the absolute value and go one typing:
