Make sure that you have actually entered an equation or inequality (it needs to contain =, <, >, >= or <= symbol).
For example, x + y + 2 is not an equation – it is an expression. On the other hand, x +y + 2 = 0 is an equation which can be solved (for either one of the variables).
Same as in your case '5x^2/5' is not an equation to be solved, it is an expression.
Make sure you type an equation.
