how do I type an exponent

Click on 'Keyboard' button and you will get more options for typing via the 'Virtual keyboard'.
Or you can type the exponent by simply typing '^' via 'Physical keyboard'.
It is useful to open the 'Help' page here and check 'Math expression entry'
