How do you get 7x^2-48+36=0 to

7x^2-42x-6x+36=0

Answer provided by our tutors

You need to split the middle term (-48...) to two terms that add up to -48..

Those are -42 and -6. You will notice that now the first two terms and last two terms are

factorable.

At the beginning it takes a bit of guessing to get these right, but with practice it gets easier.

Always make sure that the split terms add up to the original term
