Solving a quadratic equation means that you are setting "y" equal to zero and solving for the values of x for which the graph of the equation crosses the x-axis [any point on the x-axis has a y-component of zero]. Therefore, if the solution to a quadratic equation is {3, -2} the roots of the equation are (x-3) and (x+2) because (x-3) equals zero when x=3 and (x+2) equals zero when x=-2. The original quadratic equation, then, may be regenerated by multiplying (x-3)(x+2).
