Two fractions are being subtracted, so the first step is to define a common denominator.  Clicking on a particular solution step allows you to review the logic which is applied.  It is generally better to start off with 'a few steps' (use the 'Options' tab) and then increase the number of solution steps when the additional information is helpful.
