The problem

I am looking for the x and y intercepts for f(x)

You can not find intercepts for an expression, only for an equation. Equation has an equal sign in it.

Once you have an equation:

- if you want x intercept(s), substitute 0 for y and solve for x

- if you want y intercept(s), substitute 0 for x and solve for y
