I don't get the whole problem in general

One equation, one variable, hence the variable is manipulated into the left side of the equation and all other terms are transitioned to the right side and simplified for a numeric solution.  The solution is typically easier to review with 'a few steps' and clicking on a particular solution step allows you to review the logic which is applied.  Sometimes even 'a lot of steps' can be very useful but only increase the number of solution steps when it is useful.
