Use the 'Options' tab and select 'a few steps' rather than 'a lot of steps'. Starting a solution off with 'a few steps' is generally best and additional solution steps can be helpful in many cases or confusing in some instances.
Notice that the square root of "t^2" is applied to a negative term "-(d-144)", so the imaginary term 'i' becomes part of the solution since "the square root of negative 1" is the imaginary number "i".
