I was helping a student with order of operations and came across this problem the PEMDAS rule was used however 33÷3x8-2 the student did the multiplication first 3x8 and was left to divide 33 ÷ 24 which = 1.375. is there a rule that says do division before multiplication.

the rule for division and multiplication is slightly different - they have to be performed left to right
