need more information to explain to my daughter who has autism , she needs this simplified, please explain what happens with 2n with 12.

do we show working out as 2n X 12= 24

24-7 = 17 therefore 12(n) + 5 = 17

please help.

The problem which shows in your inquiry is "2n-7=n+5", but I see "2n X 12 = 24", so both of those can be discussed. 

Some of the solutions steps shown can be better served by using fewer solution steps.  I always like to start a solution by pressing on 'Options' and choosing 'a few steps' and then increase the number of steps as the additional information is useful rather than overwhelming. Finally, clicking on a particular solution steps provides a review of the logic which is applied.  

Any usage of 'X' is a variable rather than a multiplication symbol.  Multiplication is typically implicit in Algebra (i.e. no need to provide a multiplication sign because the software understands that "8x" means "8 multiplied times x"), but where multiplication must be explicitly indicated, please use the '*' symbol (Shift+8) as the nearest equivalent to the algebraic multiplication sign, 'the dot'.
