Why do I have to change the inequality sign from < to >? I multiplied -x * -1 and -6 * -1 and end up with x<6. Why do I have to change the inequality sign from < to >? Is that a rule if I multiply both sides by -1?

Yes, it is a rule. When we multiply both side of inequality by a negative number, the inequality swaps over.
